Early June and High Water

Here at Middle Fork Wilderness Outfitters, we LOVE early June high water. We often recommend high water trips on the Middle Fork for the slightly more adventurous of our guests. The receding snow pack this time of year high in the Central Idaho mountains causes the river to swell in its banks, offering an exciting but controlled ride through the river’s countless class III and IV rapids. Many clients choose to spend much of their high water trip in one of our smaller paddle boats, where each guest works as a part of a team to maneuver the boat, while the guide gives directions from the stern.

We also provide support trips for experienced kayakers. We carry all of the gear and take care of all of the details so that you can focus on what you love to do…play in the rapids of one of the most exciting, wild rivers in the country!

Early June trips are generally a bit shorter than the prime season trips, running four or five days, whichever you choose. In addition, early June weather can sometimes be variable in the Idaho Wilderness, so MFWO provides wetsuits when needed. Upon booking a trip, along with other info, we will send you a guide on “what to wear” and how to be prepared for your wilderness experience.

The minimum age on High Water trips is 14.
