Middle Fork Fly Fishing

March 29, 2017

Hey folks, we have a new trip scheduled for this year! We are offering a 4 or 5 day Upper Middle Fork fly fishing trip for our September 24th launch date. Personally, I think that September is one of the most beautiful months on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River, here in Idaho.  The summer crowds have headed home, the colors of fall are starting to make a showy display, and the chill of autumn may make a visit in the early hours of the morning.  The high water of summer has mellowed out a bit and the river beckons…It’s the perfect time to come fish the finest trout water the Middle Fork has to offer, from Boundary Creek to Thomas Creek. You’ll be riding comfortably in one of our light and maneuverable fishing rafts, with a maximum of two fishermen and one guide to each raft. As on every trip, your expert fishing guides will attend to every detail, from providing exceptional beta on where to fish and which flies are tempting those Westslope cutthroat, rainbow, and Dolly Varden trout to creating the perfect campsite at the end of the day. The crystal clear waters of the Upper Middle Fork should provide spectacular fishing this year with the record snowpack creating a perfect environment for numerous hatches.  Those of you who know me, know that I can spout a fish story as well as anyone, but seriously, it is not unusual to have 100 fish days on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River.  So clear up your schedule and join MFWO for the best fishing in Idaho – Middle Fork fly fishing! This trip also requires a back country flight out of the heart of the Frank Church Wilderness with the experienced pilots from Gem Air. Often, I’ve found myself staring at that big rock in the river that I don’t want to wrap my boat on and the rock just gets closer and closer… Over the years, I’ve learned to aim my focus where I want to go instead of the obstacle that is in the way, but like most […] The post Will’s E-quips- Snooze Control first appeared on Middle Fork Wilderness Outfitters.

If drivers drive…… do rivers rive? Most know what a river is, but do you know the meaning of rive? The post Will’s E-quips first appeared on Middle Fork Wilderness Outfitters.

There are only 12 Dark Sky Reserves in the world and Central Idaho is the only one in the US. Here at Middle Fork Wilderness Outfitters we already know what that means.  Your nights on the river explode with stars and oftentimes, when the weather is clear, you can fall asleep under the Milky Way […] The post Central Idaho Dark Sky Reserve first appeared on Middle Fork Wilderness Outfitters.

Our July 16, 2018 Middle Fork trip with Middle Fork Wilderness Outfitters was as perfect as a trip could be. We floated with friends, family, and folks from around the country who quickly became friends. The whitewater was spectacular and the skies were crystal clear as no wildfires had hit the Frank Church Wilderness Area […] The post Middle Fork Adventures first appeared on Middle Fork Wilderness Outfitters.

High water Middle Fork trips on the Salmon River are definitely for the more adventurous souls, especially this year as the snowpack in Central Idaho has reached record levels. Check out snow equivalent levels at https://www.nwrfc.noaa.gov/snow/plot_SWE.php?id=BASI1    All of this runoff will afford paddling and rowing opportunities we haven’t seen for a few years, and here […] The post High Water Middle Fork Trips first appeared on Middle Fork Wilderness Outfitters.
